GRAND FORKS, N.D. (May 31, 2019) – The Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints introduced a new format on Friday, which included time trials that set up heat race line ups. It was the first time the NOSA Sprints had a time trial session since June 2006 when they gave drivers two laps on the clock to prepare them for the upcoming National Sprint Tour event that was coming to River Cities Speedway the following week.
Polesitter, Trevor Mell, led the opening lap before Wade Nygaard took the point on lap two.
Nygaard encountered lapped traffic on lap five, which allowed Ranten to close in. Ranten executed a slide job in turns one and two but Nygaard came back with a crossover down the back straightaway. The two veteran drivers swapped the lead no less than five times in a lap and a half as they traded slide jobs and crossovers at both ends of the speedway. Ranten won the battle and opened up a comfortable lead.
Dobmeier got by Nygaard on the lap 10 restart and set his sights on Ranten, but couldn’t catch him in open track. When Ranten came upon lapped traffic, that’s when Dobmeier struck. The driver of the Buffalo Wild Wings No. 13 made a three-wide pass for the lead in traffic before cruising to the feature win.
