Devils Lake Speedway Recap
By Mike Spieker
DOYON, ND (July 11) - The Northern Outlaw Sprint Association made their third and final appearance to Devils Lake Speedway Saturday night and boasted a great field of 27 Sprint Cars. The night began with three heat races, which were won by Austin Pierce, Jade Hastings, and Wade Nygaard.

On the ensuing restart, Nygaard moved past Graham for second. Nygaard then put Mack in his cross-hairs as he looked determined to capture his second DLS win of 2015. With 10 laps to go, the leaders were caught in heavy lapped traffic. That's when Nygaard made a power move to get around Mack and take the lead.
After a few cautions reset the field, the leaders once again found themselves in lapped traffic with three laps remaining. As they entered turn one, Mack dove to the inside of Nygaard and completed a nice slide job to take the lead, but it was only momentarily. Nygaard counteracted with a crossover move and regained the point down the back stretch. As Nygaard and Mack battled with each other on the high side of the speedway, out of nowhere came the Ironman #35 of Brenden Wilde around the bottom and into the lead. Wilde looked to have the win all locked up, but as he came out of turn four looking for the checkers, two cars were stalled on the front stretch, bringing out the yellow.
The green flag dropped once again and Nygaard threw his Auto Finance Super Center #9 up on the cushion and retook the lead. The field came around to take the white when the yellow lights flashed upon the speedway once again. This time it looked to be over as Nygaard, who was one of the fastest cars all night, would pace the field back to green. As he did, however, Wilde was right on his tail tank heading into turn one. Nygaard got a good run off of turn two and pulled away from Wilde. Nygaard took the white flag with a three car length advantage over Wilde, but the race was far from over. Wilde found some bite on the bottom of turn two and launched off the corner. Nygaard and Wilde were side by side down the backstretch as the flagman had the checkers in hand. Once again, Wilde drove the extreme low side of the track as Nygaard rode the cushion around turns three and four. It came down to a drag race to the line, which was won by Wilde by a car length and a half.
An overjoyed Brenden Wilde pulled into victory lane for the first time in his 10+ year Sprint Car career and was met by his son and fellow competitor, Zach.
"It feels great, unbelievable!" said Wilde after the race. "I kept seeing guys spinning out and all I kept thinking was, 'Come on guys. Two more laps. All I need is two more laps."
With his win, Wilde becomes the 73rd different winner in Northern Outlaw Sprint Association history.
Nygaard never let Wilde out of his sight, but came up just shy of his 12th career DLS win.
"(Wilde) passed me on the bottom, but I thought I better just keep doing what I'm doing and hopefully keep my momentum up in the rubber on the high side, but he was just a little bit better than I was," commented Nygaard.
