All of us with the NOSA Sprints were saddened to hear the news of Lou Kennedy's passing on Tuesday.
Kennedy's importance to our sport is immeasurable. It's safe to say, if there was a 'Mount Rushmore' of Sprint Car racing in our area, that Kennedy would be on it. As one of the dominant forces when he was behind the wheel in the 1960's and 70's, Kennedy is still remembered today along with names like Don Mack, George Swangler, and Bucky Peterson. By Mike Spieker GRAND FORKS, ND (August 16) - For several years Thomas Kennedy has made the trip across the border from Winnipeg, MB to race weekly at River Cities Speedway, but had never parked his familiar blue 410 Sprint Car in RydellCars.com Victory Lane; until last Saturday night. Karrier's To Offer Bonus If A NOSA Driver Wins at BRRPBy Mike Spieker GRAND FORKS, ND (July 25) - A few of the All Star Circuit of Champion's top drivers are expected to make an appearance for the NOSA Sprint Car special at Buffalo River Race Park in Glyndon, MN Saturday night after their midweek swing through Williston Basin Speedway in Williston, ND. As a result, Karriers, the title sponsor of the Northern Outlaw Sprint Association, is offering an additional $300 if a NOSA driver can top the All Stars and take the win. An additional $200 is also up for grabs if a NOSA regular finishes in the runner up position. Last year Thomas Kennedy came from eighth and passed Tim Schaffer and Dale Blaney to win the All Star sanctioned race at BRRP. We'll see if Kennedy can repeat or if another NOSA driver can rise to the occasion and take the final NOSA event of the season at BRRP, presented by Dakota Fluid Power and Thunder Seed. Wade Nygaard & his biggest fan hold the checkered flag
Grand Forks ND August 16, 2013: Wade Nygaard and other NOSA drivers will be competing against the World of Outlaw Sprints tonight at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND. Nygaard comes into the night with some recent successes, including a win at Jamestown Speedway in late July and at River Cities on August 2nd. Most drivers have had their helmets hung up since the River Cities double features on August 2nd. A few NOSA drivers, Thomas Kennedy, Chris Shirek and Mark Dobmeier, competed in the 2013 Knoxville Nationals last week in Knoxville, IA. Frequent NOSA guest driver, Donny Schatz, won that event. While many sprint car fans, crews and even drivers flocked to Iowa for the Nationals, Nygaard and his family took the time to relax at the lake. However, they will be ready to race again tonight and Sunday in Minot, ND with the World of Outlaws. Nygaard has seen his success build on the track as the season has progressed this year. Nygaard hopes his team's success pays off again tonight while racing at his favorite track. Nygaard applauds the track conditions supplied by River Cities, but most importantly, he recognizes that Grand Forks' has the best race fans of anywhere. Nygaard credits his crew for the increase in the car's speed over the last few weeks and for their new found results consistency.
Thomas Kennedy in Buffalo River Race Park Victory Lane
Glyndon MN July 28 2013: Thomas Kennedy claimed a coveted feature win in front of a full field of sprint cars, including the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions group, at Buffalo River Race Park in Glyndon, MN on Sunday. The crowd on hand was thrilled to see a local NOSA driver take the win. Cory Mack, another NOSA sprint, also led laps and had a respectable 4th place finish. Kennedy was pleased to see that although track conditions rubbered down, there was more than one lane to pass, “it was rubbered down, top to bottom, which made it a lot easier to pass cars on the outside.” Kennedy considered the top 8 starters to be his biggest challengers in the race. He also noted that with the size of the track, lap traffic was an issue to contend with. Kennedy notes that part of his success is due to achieving a good balance in his cars setup this year, “we haven't really been changing a whole lot from race to race.” For Sunday’s race, Kennedy altered the stagger he ran for his heat race prior to the feature. The team also chose to use a medium RR for qualifying and the A main and then an H15RR for the heat race. Kennedy stated that Sunday nights’ win has been “my biggest accomplishment thus far.” However, Kennedy can also boast a win against World of Outlaws’ Donny Schatz in a June NOSA race at Nodak Speedway in Minot, ND.
Due in part to his success with the All Stars, Kennedy has decided to race in this weekend’s Knoxville 360 Nationals and has also entered the 410 Nationals. Kennedy also recognizes that his success is attributable to his grandparents, parents and brothers who help support his race team. He also thanked sponsors: KennedyFloorings, General Signs, Team Boss Blue, Shamrock Carpets and Forks Finest Auto Body Car Wash. Kennedy also praised the upgrades that have been made to the Buffalo River Race Park (BRRP) facility, a sentiment echoed by many NOSA drivers and fans this year.
The NOSA Outlaw Sprints will be featured this Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND. NOSA will be racing two A main features in order to make up a rain date from mid June.
