Hastings led the opening lap over Pierce though Pierce remained close in the initial handful of circuits. On the fifth lap, Pierce took the lead coming off of turn four, making the pass on the outside of Hastings to become the new leader.
The leaders started working trap traffic on lap nine which allowed Hastings to move back in on Pierce and Brendan Mullen to reel in both drivers in the Native Nations Cannabis No. 11M.
Mullen went from third to first, taking the lead on lap eleven to become the third leader of the race. Hastings also passed Pierce to move into second as the leaders continued to work thick lap traffic.
Mullen and Hastings remained close at the midway point going side-by-side on a couple of occasions for the lead allowing Mark Dobmeier in the Buffalo Wild Wings No. 13 to close the gap to make it a three-way battle for the lead.
Dobmeier passed Hastings with a dozen remaining on the scoreboard and set his sights on Mullen for the top spot. Dobmeier rode the cushion for the majority of the next two laps, eventually reeling in and passing Mullen taking the top spot with 10 to go, becoming the fourth leader of the race.
The race remained clean and green for the final ten laps, going green-to-checkered in just under six and a half minutes with Dobmeier picking up the win over Hastings, Mullen, Pierce, and Gage Pulkrabek in the ProSeed No. G5
"Patience was the name of the game,” Dobmeier said in victory lane. ‘Thankfully we got a great field of Sprint Cars here. We’ve got great competition, and it also creates a lot of lapped traffic, which changes the race. So we got the lap cars and I just had to do one of those things I'm not good at and be patient. I did that for a little bit and then I was like, “I gotta move,” so I started making moves and was able to find a few lanes, make a few bold moves and got up the front.”
Dobmeier and the rest of NOSA’s regulars will welcome the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series to River Cities Speedway on Friday June 7th with racing beginning at seven o’clock.
