Hastings took second on the restart as Andy Pake moved to the inside of Zach Omdahl and moved into the third position. Following the second caution on lap seven, Croaker remained out front over Hastings before Pake and Omdahl made contact which saw Omdahl go over the top of the banking in turn which brought his night to an end.
The contact on that restart set up a single file restart which saw Croaker continue to lead, though Hastings used the top of the racetrack to move to the lead coming off of turn two on the following lap as Mark Dobmeier took third from Pake.
Dobmeier continued forwards on lap nine, successfully sliding Croaker to move up to second before the third caution of the race put Dobmeier to Hastings’ inside for the next double-file restart.
Dobmeier stalked Hastings in traffic with ten to go and two laps later, Dobmeier led for about 30 feet attempting a slide job to take the lead but fell off the top of turn two, bringing out the final caution of the race.
Jack Croaker, Andy Pake, and Nick Omdahl battled in the closing laps for the second spot as Hastings continued on for his second victory at the Bullring in as many weeks over Pake, Nick Omdahl, Dobmeier, and Croaker.
Hastings dedicated the victory to one of the night’s new Hall of Fame inductees Mike Johnson and his car owner Jeff Leebrick who passed away two weeks ago. The No. 94 livery that Hastings ran Friday was a throwback design from Johnson and Leebrick’s 1992-94 car.
Andy Pake and Josh Johnson led the 20-lap main event to green Sunday night at Buffalo River Speedway with Pake leading the opening lap over Mark Dobmeier who took second. The lead Duo pulled away from the rest of the field on lap two as Tom Egeland took third after a side-by-side battle with Johnson as Pake set a torrid Pace out front.
In just four laps on the tight quarter-mile, Pake was already working lap traffic as Dobmeier wheelied off the fourth turn while erasing Pake's Advantage.
As Pake was about to work with a set of lap cars, Blake Egeland flipped in the fourth turn, bringing out the red flag but he was ok. Pake chose the inside from on the ensuing double file restart and remained the leader as Jade Hastings took third from Tom Egeland.
Pake continued to run strong out front as he pulled away by about ten car lengths in the couple of circuits that followed the red flag. It took a few more laps than it did on the initial start to reach traffic, but Pake pulled to the rear of the field just before the midway point but was able to continue to pull away from Dobmeier using the top side of the racetrack.
The first yellow flag of the race again cleared the way for Pake with 11 to go. The nine laps he led to this point was nearly as many as he led in his NOSA debut two years ago at Buffalo River when he led 12 laps with his 305 engine over Dobmeier.
Pake again pulled away by ten car lengths in the lap following the caution before the third slowdown of the race which saw contact between three cars in turn two. This brought Kate Taves' night to an end. Taves was making her NOSA debut as the 11th female driver in series history.
With ten laps showing on the scoreboard, that set up a single file restart with Pake again doing as he had all race long, getting good restarts and pulling back to his ten car length advantage over Dobmeier.
With five laps remaining, and lap traffic running around the bottom of the racetrack, Pake continued to use the high side to put distance between himself and Dobmeier. Coming to the flag stand for the two to go sign, Pake put two lap cars between himself and Dobmeier and continued on for his first career NOSA victory over Dobmeier, Brendan Mullen, Jade Hastings, and Jack Croaker.
“With the rain falling, I was hoping that we'd be able to get the race in,” Pake said post-race. “That went pretty good. My car wasn't running quite right. It didn't in the heat race, so I was kind of worried that I wouldn't have the horsepower to pull on them guys, but it worked out.”
NOSA action continues August 16th at River Cities Speedway with the first of the final four races of the 2024 campaign.
