Mark Dobmeier moved the Buffalo Wild Wings No. 13 to the inside of Nick Omdahl’s CMS No. 0 before the first caution on lap two. Dobmeier moved into second on the restart and on lap three, slid Hastings in turns one and two and then tried to protect the bottom in turns three and four before a second caution flag waved
Hastings and Dobmeier remained side-by-side on the restart before Dobmeier took the lead after roaring off of the cushion in turn four to lead the fourth lap.
Ten laps into the race, Dobmeier was lapping well through lapped traffic but only had a ten-car length lead on Hastings’ Ault Construction No. 8H at that point.
With 17 to go, Dobmeier got caught up in traffic by a spinning Gage Pulkrabek causing him to spin to a stop and relinquishing the lead to Hastings.
Nick Omdahl remained within striking distance on the restart running the bottom as the pair again pulled side-by-side and turns three and four in the next pair of laps though Hastings remained the leader at the midway point.
Hastings protected the bottom going into turn one which allowed Weston Olson to close in on Omdahl for the second spot, which he took one lap later.
The final caution with ten to go set up a single file restart. Weston Olson remained second in the Olson Underground No. 27 for the time being but Blake Egeland, who started last in the Engelstad Farms No. 26 after being unable to run his heat race, worked his way up into the top five and passed Olson for second with eight to go.
Dobmeier had also charged from the tail of the field to make his way into the top five, passing Olson for fourth and then Omdahl for third with six to go.
With every spot up for grabs between second and fifth, Hastings pulled away by a straightaway and went on to pick up his 26th career victory tying 2009 Series Champion Bobby Martin for seventh all time.
Egeland, Dobmeier, Nick Omdahl, and Olson completed the top five.
“I didn't start off very good,” Hastings said post-race. “I was way too tight, which we anticipated, and it would have been nice to see what happened there with Mark at the end. It would have been nice to race against him but, ‘They don't ask how they ask, how many.’
