Wade Nygaard seals John Seitz Memorial victory.
GRAND FORKS, ND (September 6) - Coming into the night only two drivers, Wade Nygaard and Casey Mack, had ever won the Saturday night John Seitz Memorial NOSA Sprint Car event in its seven year history. But it looked like that was going to change up until the caution flew on the final lap.
Nygaard, who was running second at the time, then inherited the race lead for the Evergreen Insurance green-white-checkered finish. Nygaard quickly got his Auto Finance Super Center #9N wound up on the cushion. When Nygaard drove into turn three for the final time, Chris Shirek pitched his #1K low for a Hail Mary slide job, but Nygaard's momentum carried him to the victory.
"I just kind of laughed and said, 'Well I guess we're in the lead now.'" said Nygaard of the last lap incident. "We had a good chance (to pass Pierce) on a restart once; I passed him, then he passed me back, but I don't think we would have ever caught him."
Nygaard's win was his fourth Saturday night Seitz Memorial victory; tying him with Casey Mack for the most all-time.
