Amber Balcaen is part of McQueen Racing Team out of Bakersfield California, an all girl Midget Sprint Car race team that will be competing in the World Famous Lucas Oil Chili Bowl in Tulsa Oklahoma. 

Amber will be qualifying this Wednesday night January 14th in the huge Tulsa Expo Raceway, a quarter mile clay oval inside the River Spirit Expo Center at Tulsa's Expo Square. Main event will be Saturday January 17, 2015.

Event Coverage: For the second year, the Chili Bowl will be show online on http://www.racinboys.com. The online PPV experience will run from Tuesday through Saturday’s qualifiers. At time of opening ceremonies on Saturday, Racinboys PPV coverage will cease as final features will be shown live on MAVTV American Real. Amber also finished 8th in points at The World Famous Legendary Bullring River Cities Speedway in the 410 Outlaw Sprint Car class.

Amber Balcaen Announces Big Plans for 2014 Season

Winnipeg, Manitoba (04/08/14) - 22-year-old, Amber Balcaen from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada is proud to announce that the 2014 season will mark her most ambitious to date as she will pilot both a 360 c.i. and a 410 c.i. Sprint Car for Apex SpeedSports Inc.

"Since I was a little girl it was always my dream to race a Sprint Car," says Balcaen. "After graduating from college with a degree in business management last spring, I realized that 2014 was the year to start making my racing dreams come true."

Balcaen has a background in racing Lightning Sprints for the past few seasons, but was ready to move on to a new challenge. After spending the last eight months in pursuit of sponsorship for 2014, Balcaen was able to solidify a few deals, but not enough to move her in the full-sized Sprint Car ranks.

sprint car driver, will be making her debut in a 360 NOSA Outlaw Sprint car this Thursday at Red River Valley Coop Speedway. Balcaen, daughter of late model and former sprint car driver, Mike Balcaen, has received many words of advice over the years from her father, including always “have fun” and “use two feet.” 

Those words of advice will prove useful as Balcaen takes to the 4/10 mile, high banked Red River Valley Coop Speedway Thursday night. Balcaen has been involved in racing since the age of 10, starting in go karts. In 2008, she transitioned to lightning sprints and currently races with a 1000cc engine. 
 
Balcaen’s opportunity to drive a car, with an increase of at least 600 horsepower over her lightning sprint, fell into place after the USAC midget she was scheduled to race was totaled by the owner the previous weekend. When her uncle, Lou Kennedy Jr, approached her about driving one of his team’s cars, Balcaen didn't hesitate’ “Absolutely. I've always wanted to drive a full sized sprint.”

Balcaen recognizes the challenges facing her moving into a full sized sprint. As “a female, I have more to prove, which I find sometimes is difficult to deal with. But when I step in the car I just have to put that all behind me.” She hopes to get more comfortable with each lap in the car. “My dad can critique my driving from there.”

The Northern Outlaw Sprint Association (NOSA) will run their first sanctioned race at the Red River Valley Coop Speedway since 2008. Grand Forks’ Mark Dobmeier captured the feature in 2008. This year, NOSA’s driver roster is filled with many new names, many of whom have a good chance of taking home the checkered flag.
