MANDAN, N.D. (August 2, 2019) – The Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints made the haul to Dacotah Speedway in Mandan, N.D. last weekend for the Governor’s Cup, co-sanctioned with the Canadian-American Outlaw Sprint Series.
Dobmeier dominated the majority of the 21-car main event during Friday’s program, but a late-race caution put the field right on his back bumper. On the restart, Nygaard successfully slid Dobmeier to take the lead, but Dobmeier came storming back down the back straightaway. Dobmeier regained the lead in turns three and four.
The all-time NOSA wins leader set sail in the final laps to score his second career Dacotah Speedway victory. Nygaard, Jade Hastings, Nick Omdahl and Jordan Adams completed the top five.
“Wade got a way better start on that last restart and beat me into the corner, but I was able to swing around turns one and two, get a big head of steam, and slide him in turns three and four to get him back,” said Dobmeier. “We had a great working car. The crew has been working hard trying to get things a little better for some big races coming up.”
Twenty-three NOSA Sprints were checked in for Saturday’s finale at the three-eighths mile oval. Nygaard grabbed the early lead from his front row starting position as Dobmeier moved into second on lap one. With nine of 25 laps complete, Dobmeier put a slide job on Nygaard to take the lead momentarily, but Nygaard crossed over to reclaim the spot.
With five laps to go, Dobmeier reeled in and passed Nygaard once again. The final caution flew with three laps to go. On the restart, Nygaard rode in the tire tracks until he executed a slide job in turns one and two to take the lead from the Buffalo Wild Wings No. 13. Dobmeier got the right side wheels off the track trying to get back around Nygaard, which allowed the 10-time NOSA champion to extend his lead. Nygaard cruised to the win to match Dobmeier with two career Dacotah Speedway wins.
Jade Hastings edged out Dobmeier for second on the final lap.
“I made a bad decision in lapped traffic and Mark was able to get by me,” said Nygaard. “The only way I was going to get by him was for him to get held up in lapped traffic, then the caution came out. I got a run on him on the restart and was able to get back by him. I’m glad there weren’t any more restarts after that.”
The NOSA Sprints return to action tonight at River Cities Speedway.
