CRARY, N.D. (September 19, 2017) – The 2017 Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprint Car season came to a close last Sunday evening at Devils Lake Speedway. Austin Pierce claimed his second NOSA points title just by showing up at the high-banked quarter-mile. Wade Nygaard raced to his series leading 14th career victory at Devils Lake.
CRARY, N.D. (September 19, 2017) – The 2017 Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprint Car season came to a close last Sunday evening at Devils Lake Speedway. Austin Pierce claimed his second NOSA points title just by showing up at the high-banked quarter-mile. Wade Nygaard raced to his series leading 14th career victory at Devils Lake.
Twenty NOSA Sprints took the green flag for the main event, which was led by front row starters Jade Hastings and Shane Roemeling.
At the drop of the green flag, Nygaard began working his way forward. Nygaard drove by Roemeling for the lead on lap two, but shortly thereafter the two drivers made contact, which sent Roemeling into a series of flips.
Roemeling was a little shaken up, but ultimately was uninjured.
On the restart, Nick Omdahl, who has two Devils Lake Speedway wins to his credit in 2017, took the lead with Casey Mack in tow.
Mack, who also has a 2017 Devils Lake Speedway win, took the lead from Omdahl and went on to lead the majority of the race. A caution with eight laps to go put Nygaard on the rear bumper of Mack for the restart and Nygaard took full advantage.
Nygaard, a nine-time NOSA champion, moved by Mack to take the lead and went on to lead all of the remaining laps. Mack gave Nygaard everything he had on the final lap, but came up short at the checkers.
Austin Pierce raced in the top five for most of the main event, but an engine failure in the closing laps left him with a 14th place finish. Still, Pierce had a big enough cushion over Mack to claim his second Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA points title and first since 2014.
