Wade Nygaard Holds Off Dobmeier & Kennedy Jr. For Opening Night Win

GRAND FORKS, ND (May 1) - Wade Nygaard picked up his 51st career Northern Outlaw Sprint Association victory Friday night at River Cities Speedway. Nygaard slipped by Mark Dobmeier with five laps remaining when Dobmeier hooked a rut in turn one and bicycled up the track. Nygaard went flying by on the outside as Lou Kennedy Jr. harassed Dobmeier for the second spot.
Dobmeier was able to maintain the runner up position and set his sights on Nygaard's Auto Finance Super Center #9N with only three circuits remaining around the 3/10th mile bullring. Meanwhile, Austin Pierce, who picked up a victory in the B-main, gave Kennedy Jr. a challenge for third. The white flag flew and Kennedy Jr. bobbled into turn one, giving the position to Pierce, but both drivers were way behind Nygaard, who cruised to the first checkered flag of 2015. Dobmeier came home second, followed by Pierce, Kennedy Jr. and Greg Nikitenko.
"It feels great!" said Nygaard in RydellCars.com Victory Lane. "This is what we planned on when we came out here tonight."
"There was a little bit of rubber coming out of (turn) 2 and 3, and every lap it got a little bit better. As long as (Dobmeier) didn't change his line, I knew it was going to work out."
Trouble ensued for a number of drivers on lap two. A tangle between Trent Stengl, Dave Glennon, and Thomas Kennedy resulted in Stengl tipping over on his side, but all the drivers were okay.Stengl and Glennon were forced to retire from the event due to damage, but Kennedy's car was unharmed. Kennedy went on to salvage a sixth place finish.
